We are very pleased to announce that the White House Petition to recognize “Acupuncturist” as a health care provider has met the number of signatures (25,000 to be exact) required to activate it. Currently, because the Social Security Act does not recognize acupuncturists as health care providers, Medicare will not pay them for therapy management. However, with a whopping 27,528 signatures on the petition as of today (a full 2,528 over and above the required number), it is clear that many Americans have experienced the benefits of ongoing acupuncture treatments on their health and well-being and feel strongly enough about their results to actually do something about it.
So what’s next? Now that the petition is officially active, the ball is in the Obama Administration’s court. The Administration is required to read and consider the petition, and we are keeping our fingers crossed that the countless stories of everyday people who have experienced the benefits of acupuncture will make a difference in the decision. Who knows? Maybe members of the Administration will even be convinced to try acupuncture for themselves…
Until the decision is reached, be well. 🙂
