DASHA® promotes preventive medicine and advocates doing all you can to take control of the things you actually have control over when it comes to your health.  This includes what you eat, since the food you put in your mouth is not only a choice, but also and most importantly, the fuel and nutrients you use to sustain your daily activities.  January is Thyroid Awareness Month, and if you didn’t catch the great pieces we ran last year to promote thyroid awareness, we encourage you to click HERE to read, “What Does the Thyroid Do, and What is Thyroid Disease?” and click HERE to read, “What is Thyroid Cancer?”

The hormones in your thyroid control your metabolism rate and affect how your body uses food for energy.  The thyroid requires iodine, as well as selenium, zinc copper and iron to make the necessary hormones.  There are many foods you can eat that contain these important elements.

Foods that promote better thyroid health:

SEAFOOD:  Salmon, shrimp, oysters, sardines, tuna, lobster, clams

MEAT:  Beef, turkey, lamb

VEGETABLES:  Spinach, asparagus, Swiss chard, mushrooms, summer squash, lima beans, shitake mushrooms

NUTS, SEEDS & BEANS:  Sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, walnuts, pecans, soybeans, white beans
