Dr. Darren Pollack will be running the ING New York City Marathon this Sunday, 11/06, with the 3:15:00 pace group. He plans to push ahead at mile 21 after re-entering Manhattan via Madison Avenue Bridge, and will aim for a finish time between 3:10:00 and 3:15:00.
“Training for a marathon takes tremendous dedication pre- and post-race,” Dr. Pollack says. “People spend so much time working to excel on race day, but it’s important to follow through with your training after the race, too.” Dr. Pollack has spent months following his own advice: he ran the Hamptons Marathon in September and the Hartford Marathon in October in preparation for the marathon this weekend.
Dr. Pollack does the majority of his training on DASHA®’sMatrix T7xe Treadmill. The treadmill is ideal for race-day prep: it simulates the experience of running outdoors in a variety of settings. Lately, Dr. Pollack has taken to the streets in order to get used to pounding the pavement on race day.
His last long run was 22 miles this past Thursday. His alarm went off at 3:00 in the morning, and after a nudge and some encouragement from his wife, Shannon, Dr. Pollack hit the streets. The pizza place near his apartment building on the Upper West Side was just shutting down for the night, and on his way out the door, Dr. Pollack waved goodbye to the man closing the restaurant. An hour later, Dr. Pollack passed the same man getting off the subway at Staten Island Ferry.
“I attribute feeling great physically and being able to run this way to the work we do at DASHA®,” Dr. Pollack says. He explains that massage, stretching, and proper treatment and conditioning pre- and post-race are all key to running a great marathon. “All these components are critical to a continuous and successful running process. You have to keep going and be in tune with your body every step of the way.”
