Fight the Winter Blahs

Okay, so this winter hasn’t been that cold (thankfully), but still, the holidays are over and the days, even though they are getting longer, are still short, and it’s just not yet spring! Do you find yourself with ants in your pants this time of year every year? Do you catch yourself sighing or groaning out of nowhere?

Fight the winter blahs! Here are all the ways how:

Plan a vacation now. It’s easier to put a hat and scarf on when you know there’s a vacation to do in in your not so distant future. Plan it now and write it in your calendar. It’s always fun to have a trip to look forward to.

Embrace the hibernation period. Decide to love winter wholeheartedly and fake it till you make it. Hole up and read a book. Binge watch your favorite new TV show or every “Best Picture” movie ever made. Or do your spring cleaning…now. Binge and purge those closets and storage areas.

Mix up your diet. Teach yourself how to make something new that’s also healthy, tasty and wintry. Maybe it’s butternut squash soup, matzo ball soup, a stew, turkey chili, or stir fry – the sky’s the limit.

Book yourself a “me” time treatment. Our muscles get tight in winter as we rush through the concrete jungle with our shoulders hunched up to our ears. Book a massage and breathe a little more deeply.

Get out and take a walk. It’s important to spend time outside, even in winter, and get that vitamin D and lift your spirits, so get outside and get your blood pumping. A great time to do this during the week is on your lunch hour at work.

Host a winter blahs party. Maybe it’s lunch or brunch with your closest girlfriends, or maybe it’s a Friday night dinner with a few close couples, but throw a party that isn’t Superbowl-related and enjoy some good company, laughs, good food and wine. No one said you can’t party in winter.
