Admit it – you’re concerned about global warming and working on reducing your carbon footprint, but you’re totally psyched about these spring temperatures. (Have you seen the tree in full bloom in Union Square and the city dwellers and tourists alike gathering to snap a selfie in front of it?)
Now that it’s time to come out of winter hibernation where most evenings found you at home with Netflix and a glass of wine, it’s time to rediscover the best city on earth and jump right on it. Here’s what you should be doing this spring:
Join Citi Bike. Since 2007, New York City has made a huge effort to add more bike lanes, so it’s never been safer to navigate the city on two wheels. Whether you’re commuting to work or enjoying a weekend ride, it’s a whole new way to appreciate Manhattan. Not sure how you’ll fare on the bike? Consider joining Citi Bike – the monthly cost is low, and you don’t have to worry about bike storage or theft. Watch the most beautiful concrete jungle pass you buy as you pedal down the bike lane!
Take in a Broadway show. The Tony Awards are just around the corner, and pretty soon what’s hot will be even more impossible to get tickets to see. Download the TodayTix app to get day of discounted tickets and/or enter the lottery for even cheaper discounted tickets to see some of the best Broadway has to offer!
Check out the Whitney Museum of Art. In case you’ve been living under a rock, the Whitney Museum of Art relocated to the meatpacking district less than one year ago. It’s in a gorgeous new building overlooking the highline! Don’t wait for out-of-town guests to give you an excuse to be a tourist in your own city. Take in the art at the museum and stroll the highline for some breathtaking views when you’re finished.
Play ball! It’s nearly opening day for baseball and you’ve got hundreds of games to choose from all season long. If you’ve never seen the Yankees play in Yankee Stadium, we may have to question your “New Yorker” label. There’s nothing quite so American and quite so New York as watching the Yankees play a home game.
Check out some comedy. All the great comics come through New York or get there start here. With so many stand-up comedy clubs, from Caroline’s to The Stand and more and improv clubs like UCB and The PIT to choose from at so many price points, from dirt cheap $5 on up and two-drink minimums, your desired funnybone experience is covered. It’s an election year, so the news is tough – take a load off and laugh! Perfect for date nights, birthday celebrations, or outings with friends.
