May wasn’t so long ago – remember just how painful the weather was until it finally, FINALLY turned warmer, resembling something like spring with the promise of summer sometime after May 20th? Yeah, we don’t want to think about it either! We are so glad for the long, warm weather days we’re having now.
Inevitably, Mother Nature will rain on our summer parade at some point this summer. So here are some great ideas about what you can do with the little ones when that happens in order to keep your sanity and keep them entertained!
Children’s Museum of Manhattan. If your little ones are under the age of 6, the Children’s Museum of Manhattan was made for them. Get a hand stamp in order to come and go all day long so your kids can explore the age specific exhibits to their heart’s content. Tuesday to Friday and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Saturday 10am to 7pm. Closed Mondays. 212 West 83rd Street. http://cmom.org
American Museum of Natural History. Just around the corner from the Children’s Museum and covering two full city blocks is the National History Museum. Dinosaurs, elephants, a giant blue whale, rocks, nature films on the IMAX, the Hayden Planetarium and more, the Natural History Museum has something to delight every child. You can lunch at the museum cafeteria and if the rain clears when you’re finished, hop across the street to Central Park! Open daily 10am to 5:45pm. Central Park West & 79th Street. http://www.amnh.org
Children’s Museum of the Arts. If you have kids who love to keep their little hands busy with arts and crafts, check out this hands on museum that lets kids work with art materials and paint, sculpt, draw and more. Monday and Wednesday 12pm to 5pm. Thursday and Friday 12pm to 6pm. (Pay what you wish on Thursdays 4pm to 6pm.) Saturday and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Closed Tuesdays. 103 Charlton Street. http://cmany.org
Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers. It rains when we need it – often times in summer it’s to cool things down. So why not cool down at the ice skating rink? Be sure to check the website for the latest on hours of operation.
Pins & Needles. Pins & Needles is a modern crafts boutique, fabric store and sewing studio offering sewing and craft lessons for DIYers of all ages! Monday to Friday 11am to 6pm. Saturday 10:30am to 5pm. Closed Sunday. 1045 Lexington Avenue, 2nd floor. http://pinsandneedlesnyc.com
