Today’s SHA-NANIGAN®️s I love that I don’t always need to be fancy to feel confident. I love, love, love wearing jeans and cute little workout ensembles. So now my 50 plus pairs of stilleto heels have taken a back seat to my 10 pairs of sneakers which seem to have gotten me to places much faster. Especially since I am running three half marathons in the course of 4 months.

When I take class I don’t need to be fancy at all, I just need to be comfortable!

When I exercise, I often wear no makeup and I always wear a sports bra!! It’s not because I need to show my skin, its because I love to watch my body go to work. Plus I love the feeling of the sweat dripping down! When I exercise it’s full on with a deeply focused mindset! So being comfortable for me is #1.

Im a huge fan of Lulu Lemon because it has specific technical gear made for intense training sessions.

  •  The clothes are sewn so the inside seams are flat seamed, so ladies, NO chaffing!
  •  The fabrics are moisture wicking, which means that moisture is pulled away from your skin to the surface of the material and evaporates faster
  •  Their garments mainly have a 4 way stretch for comfort
  •  No need to worry about the materials fading because they are colorfast
  •  They are meant to be worn hard and washed hard (which I love because can identify with that motto)!
  • Lastly they suck it all in.

I am very focused these days on meeting my daily requirements as they relate to my training. Before I go to bed at night I lay my clothes out and prepare for my workout the next morning. There are pros and cons to exercising in the am and the pm. Being that my races are in the am I am preparing my mind and body to practice running at that time. However, metabolically I haven’t eaten at that point so around 10:30 am might be a better trade off. This is something to consider when you are training for a marathon.

So enough about me, the point is do what makes you feel comfy. Working out for a female is often tied up in her body image issues that she’s been working on since she hit puberty. The way she looks matters and always has. Women deal with things in bazaar ways. Painting their pretty little faces with makeup is just one way and obsessively working out is another. Having issues with your body does not ever go away because one is working out. They often are expanded upon in a group class where more people are looking. The same stands true for men, (sorry if I left you hanging!)

If being fancy 24/7 is your thing than “Go For It!” If putting on your calendar days to be fancy than that works too. For me, comfort is the key to being successful at the gym.

Question: How long did it take you to convert form heels to kicks?
