Update: My 2013 stress elimination mission

I thought it would be interesting to look back at the “My Biggest Health Advice for 2013” post to see how I was doing with my commitment to identify and eliminate the major stressors in my life for the new year. After some thought and analysis about the last few months, I can honestly say that I have done a good job holding to my commitment! Here’s how I’ve accomplished it (and some valuable lessons I’ve learned along the way).

Let’s start with a clean closet! I have a big problem that I call “TYPE A” as an aspect of my personality! This can be a good thing and a bad thing depending on which part of Gemini comes out in me. In order for me to continue to maintain a high level of career involvement and keep things running and organized at home, I have learned that I must not hoard. Keeping things tidy and as minimal as possible at home is a great way to avoid feeling stressed. Clutter causes chaos. Don’t be afraid to get rid of things.

I must say that my timing for this realization was impeccable, as it occurred just before a move with my family to another New York City apartment. I not only cleaned out my closets, my kids’, and my husband’s, but I made a decision not to purchase anything new for at least a month (excluding shoes of course!). Going through things and getting rid of what we didn’t need was not only therapeutic, but it made settling into our new home SO much easier. Now everything has a place. This move was definitely the smoothest move I have ever had! The stress of looking was the biggest challenge!

I have also made a point to eliminate some of the negative energy that has surrounded me. I started off with a Feng Shui Project at home (which also incited a similar project at DASHA® and in the homes of some family and friends). I’m not saying this to give myself a pat on the back, but sometimes people just need the door opened for them, and our actions can spark those around us into action as well! New Yorkers definitely have high volume, high stress lifestyles filled with many personalities and upbringings. A little simplicity goes a long way.

Finally, I have taken the some of the pressure off myself to fit my workout into my schedule during the work week at DASHA®. I know I can take advantage of our Personal Training and Acupuncture services on a daily basis; however, I have chosen to begin personal training on my time at my apartment. It is truly “me” time, and I love how I get the feeling of being a guest in my own home.

All in all, I am feeling great these days, and I am grateful that I have made some wise decisions and gained a more positive outlook,  which I hope rubs off on those around me. I look forward to posting again soon!
xo,
Sha
