This weekend my family (and I mean all of us: husband, in-laws, 5 year-old daughter) is headed to see my son Cooper on visiting day at sleepaway camp. After 26 days and 7 hours (but who’s counting?!), I am beyond thrilled to see him. My friend Lori will be there visiting her son as well, accompanied by her parents who I lovingly refer to as “the Costanzas” (for any of you Seinfeld enthusiasts out there). And the Lori/Sha mommy team will not be going empty-handed. Lori dutifully purchased every snack pack that has ever been made, and I am bringing cookies for the kids, a gift basket filled with more than a plethora of games, toys, and puzzles (I may have gone a little crazy), and a half-dozen balloons in DASHA® apple green and white so that Cooper will be able to find us.
Even though the forecast predicts pouring rain and 100 degree weather, which will most likely result in a pile of parents being crammed together into one of the cabins while we anxiously await our kids, the reunion is so near that I can taste it! As any parent can understand, it is really difficult to be separated from your child, and although it’s good for our kids to grow up and be independent, no one ever talks about how hard separation can be on dear old mom and dad. The camp is predicting that over 2,000 people will be there this weekend for visiting day, and to prevent a stampede of parents from demolishing the camp in a fury to get to their children, the camp has organized visiting hours strategically in alphabetical order. Which means I have to wait all the way until “P” to see my son.
All I can say is, once we get to my letter, I will race/push/trip anyone, family included, who tries to get to Coop before I do! 😉
Can’t wait for visiting day!
xo,
Sha
