These days, when I step outside the door in Manhattan on my way to work, it feels like I am walking directly into a swimming pool called humidity, but I’m so thankful it’s summer and the days are long, that I don’t dare complain about how hot it is! I’m starting a new monthly column devoted to some of my favorite things I’d like to share with you, so if you don’t already know about them, you can love them just as much as I do.
FASHION Anthropologie makes these hot, light, comfortable fashion forward harem pants. Yes, long ago, for those of us who can remember the late 1980s, they were known as Hammer pants, but these loosely fitted women’s trousers that taper at the ankle no longer have the side flaps on the hip that button at the waist a la “Can’t Touch This” style. They can be paired with a tank top or blouse. Wear them with flats at work during the day or heels or wedge sandals at night, and you’ve got a versatile look to carry you through your busy day.
FOOD Who doesn’t love to eat? Let’s face it, though — we all love to be able to treat ourselves and not feel guilty. With Dig Inn Seasonal Market we finally can! Their Trail Mix Cookie ($2.30) is moist, soft and utterly delicious. It is the perfect combination of oats and melt in your mouth decadence. Lunch is instantly better when I have one of their cookies waiting for me at the end of it. If you prefer your guilty pleasures liquid style, they have an incredible drink called Pomegranate Pear ($4.59). At only 150 calories and made with pear, mint, ginger and agave nectar, you feel as though you’ve entered adult Candyland when you sip it through your straw. They have multiple locations throughout Manhattan. Be sure to check their website and on-line menu for more details.
BEAUTY When it comes to make-up, I’ve been a Bobbi Brown girl for years, and even when I think about trying something else, I always end up coming back to her products, because they are the best. Katie Holmes is the latest in celebrity faces for the line, and her simple, fresh-faced look is exactly what I think and how I feel when I use Bobbi Brown products. My favorite is the Hydrating Eye Cream ($49.00). It lasts forever and hydrates the skin under your eyes perfectly. Bobbi Brown also partners with Dress for Success, wherein the women who receive clothes also receive a basic make-up kit from Bobbi Brown Essentials. I love that when I am purchasing her products, I am putting money into another company that understands how important it is to give back.
CULTURE The MOMATH (Museum of Mathematics) is such a gem in New York City. Located in the Flatiron District, it’s not very big, which means it’s not very touristy. Its mission is “to lead a broad and diverse audience to understand the evolving, creative, human and aesthetic nature of mathematics.” My kids love this museum, and I love that its exhibits are very hands on and help teach my kids to think analytically. The cost of the museum, at $9 for kids and $15 for adults, is cheaper than most other NYC museums, and it’s open 10am to 5pm, 364 days a year.
SELF I can’t end this article without talking about one of my most favorite things we have at DASHA®! And that is our chapstick. We just got a new green tea flavor that is yummy and moisturizing. Chapstick is always important to wear, but especially in the summer, when the scorching sun makes our lips more prone to be dry. Our lips do everything, from communicating our thoughts and feelings, to kissing our loved ones – so they should look and feel their best at all times! Call our offices now for a chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy, personal training or massage appointment. We believe you need to take care of yourself in order to be the best version of yourself, so enhance your well-being now at DASHA®. We’re waiting for you!
