6:15 a.m.
The alarm goes off, and after hitting snooze once or twice, we’re up! My wife Sha and I work side by side from the beginning of the day until at least 3:00 p.m. in the office (and of course 24 hours a day on the home front with our kiddies). Today I make a nutritious breakfast while Sha gets ready, and other days we switch. Today, it was quite rewarding when our son Cooper volunteered to help me with the scrambled eggs and cheese (the kids’ moods in the morning generally depend upon whether or not the bedtime routine the evening prior was followed).
Getting the kids dressed can be challenging, as they may have distinct preferences about what they’d like to wear (for example, my daughter Summer may not be in the mood for purple or pink that day, and we can usually count on the fact that she’ll have a strong preference to wear a fancy dress). Cooper is fairly easy, as long as it’s a football, baseball, or basketball- themed shirt. The last step before leaving our Upper West Side home is brushing teeth and brushing hair.
8:30 a.m.
We drive to school and work daily and use this time in the car to discuss after school activities and the kids’ schedules for the week. Depending on my schedule and flexibility, I usually make a promise to do something with each of the kids individually during the week, in addition to our weekends together as a family. I believe strongly in involving both kids in athletics, whether it’s going on an early run before school, rollerblading, or playing catch in the hallway of our apartment (shhhhh!).
Being a part of the daily morning grind with Sha and the kids is so special to me. I love that we are truly a husband and wife team and that our kids’ friends, teachers, and other parents are used to seeing us together. We drop Cooper off first, then Summer, and we always try to make time to speak with their teachers, other parents, and our kids’ classmates. We really value being actively involved in their lives, especially as working parents.
9:30 a.m.
Today, after dropping off the kids, Sha and I take a walk together in Central Park before our work day at DASHA begins. We love being able to do this in the morning. It is a great time of reflection individually and as a couple. We arrive at the Galleria building feeling peaceful and relaxed, in spite of the business of the morning, take the elevator to the fifth floor, and begin our day.
As Medical Director and Chiropractic Physician at DASHA, I’m actively involved in patient care and treatment throughout the day. I am constantly connecting with patients, team members, and other doctors. Some days I will be in the office for 12 hours without taking a breath, and other days I may be able to leave in the afternoon. These occasional early days are always appreciated and reserved for quality time with Sha and/or the kiddies.
8:30 p.m.
After a full day at DASHA, I arrive home and put the kids to bed after homework and some reading. Generally, Sha and I alternate between Cooper and Summer each night. Then we spend some time together, eat dinner, and wind down from the day.
11:00 p.m.
Time to hit the hay and get a good night’s rest for another busy day. Night night!
