Funky Feature Friday: The Treadmill Desk

While doing some research for an upcoming fitness article the other day, we came across a product that was too funny to ignore. Introducing the Treadmill Desk. Yep, it exists. Why? We don’t really get it. The idea behind it (created by Dr. James Levine of the highly respected Mayo Clinic) is obviously to keep yourself active rather than sitting in front of the computer all day, and studies show that people using it do burn an extra 100 calories/hour, but somehow we can’t wrap our heads around actually having this in an office environment.

Picture this: you arrive at a midtown Manhattan skyscraper, take the elevator to the 55th floor, are greeted by the receptionist of a posh New York law firm who offers you tea, coffee, or Pellegrino, and are then ushered to the office of the attorney whom you are paying big bucks to represent you, and he greets you from behind his TREADMILL DESK! Wouldn’t it make meetings awkward to be seated in a chair while the other person is speaking to you from the treadmill while walking continuously? Is this meant to be a replacement for the desk or a supplemental desk? Isn’t it hard to read a computer or type while WALKING as the woman pictured in this advertisement is doing?? Does anyone actually USE one of these???

We’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the Treadmill Desk. If you happen to use one or know someone who does, let us know what they have to say about it! Enjoy your weekend!
