DASHA® Friend & Client SHANE ARTERS just placed SECOND OVERALL AMATEUR in the 2011 NYC Triathlon! Shane’s success as a multisport competitor is astounding. He entered his first race in 1986, and has competed in more than 125 triathlons and multisport races over the past 25 years. One of Shane’s greatest feats–a true testament to “the celebration of mind over body”–was his remarkable comeback and Top 10 Overall finish after two serious bike accidents during the 2010 Cancun Ironman 70.3.
Shane was badly injured and his bike damaged, but he not only got back in the race twice, he also completed the subsequent half-marathon on a day with a heat index over 100 degrees, placing SIXTH out of over 1,000 amateur triathletes and SECOND in his age group. His time was 4 hours and 42 minutes; the 1st place Overall Amateur finished in 4 hours and 26 minutes. Shane beat five of the twenty pro-triathletes in the race, and qualified to compete in the 2010 Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Recently, Shane earned another Top 10 Overall Amateur finish during the 2011 Providence Ironman 70.3, and he’ll be competing again this year in the 2011 Ironman 70.3 World Championships.
His unbelievable performance in years past has earned him the nickname “Sugar Shane,” after the legendary World Welterweight Champion, Sugar Shane Mosley; and also, incidentally, brought him to DASHA®, as he was in need of a “great sports chiropractor and physical therapist in NYC” after the injuries sustained in the Cancun Ironman. Congratulations on the NYC Triathlon, Sugar Shane!
