Who knows where the year is going, but it’s flying by. Thankfully, it’s not time to transition that summer wardrobe out of your closet just yet!
New York City moves so quickly, we’re often just racing to keep a few paces ahead, and when we factor in the busy details of our lives – high-pressure jobs, family, friends, and other responsibilities, it’s amazing we function. Social media brings the world closer than ever, and the Internet and cell phones make it so we’re available at any given far-flung corner of the world – there’s hardly such a thing as “vacation or “break” anymore.
Yet even as times change and the world evolves, there are still some basics of our existence that never change. We need food, shelter, and water to survive. When people die, they don’t die wishing they had spent more hours at the office. Love, laughter, family and friends matter. A lot. They are good and essential to your health. And so it seems right that we have arrived at our September 2015 theme of the month, Down-to-Earth.
Some Asian philosophers believe that when you need to ground yourself, to feel connected, you should hold onto your faucet or the pipes of your sink to feel connected to the water, which flows down to the earth. We can appreciate the sense of the peace and stillness that come from feeling confident and content, with two feet planted firmly on the ground.
Join us this month as we talk about all the ways to remain Down-to-Earth in our busy modern lives in the greatest city in the world.
