What better way to enjoy some “ME time” these last few weeks of summer than to focus on your internal health? To prepare ourselves for the stress of Back-To-School, my assistant and I booked our first appointment at Fluid Water Therapy, a colonic detox center located in the Flatiron District of Manhattan and Midtown East. As you guys already know, I love trying out wellness hotspots and fitness classes especially in NYC! Not only is it fun, but it keeps me running at 100% during my week!
The idea of a hydro therapeutic colonic is to take out the bad bacteria in your gut. It is a safe and effective method to remove waste from your colon WITHOUT drugs. During a hydrotherapy session, the only thing going into your body is water. No foreign chemicals are involved! Fluid Water Therapy (the company) calls their proprietary hydrotherapy system the “Angel of Water”—I’d like to think because of the heavenly results 😉. Cleansing your colon can have great benefits* including:
*As always, be sure to consult your doctor before receiving this treatment to see if it is right for you.
- Weight loss
- Body detox
- Energy boost
- Strengthens immune system
- Skin health
- Digestion
To prep for this cleanse, they suggested I take probiotics before and after the treatment to restore the “good” bacteria that might be removed. They also recommended I avoid food up to 2 hours prior to cleanse to avoid cramping. Fortunately, there is minimal preparation required, so I didn’t have to do anything special before I went.
When I entered Fluid Water Therapy for my treatment, I was sooo surprised with how BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN, and STERILE the facility is. There are no funky smells that take away from the spa-like experience! You are seated on a huge comfy chair that has the Angel machine at the end– you let it do all the work! Because they use a closed tank system, it is extremely clean and antibacterial. The entire cleanse takes only about 30-40 minutes. Not to mention, they have Netflix ready if you want to dive into your favorite TV show while you wait. As far as the actual treatment goes, the water runs kind of slowly at first… then it picks up out of nowhere! I had to hold on tight to my seat not knowing exactly what was going to happen next. It was actually kind of hilarious. Be prepared ladies for a little push! (Note: this is not a labor push either)
Overall, the experience left me feeling energized, rejuvenated and satisfied. Because there is no “recovery” time after this treatment, I was able to hit a workout class that same day. Be sure to restore your electrolytes after the cleanse by drinking tons of water, tea, and/or juices. Try to avoid raw veggies and heavy meats (I opted for miso soup for dinner.) They suggested coming in for a second session within 7 days for best results. Time to book my next appointment!
