It’s easy to forget what the season is all about–love and generosity of spirit. The holidays bring out the best in me. I was raised celebrating both Hanukah and Christmas, and love enjoying them with my family, friends and colleagues. It’s the giving season, and with it comes the question as to how to reward your team so they know their work is valued and appreciated, but not be too extravagant or break the budget. The strong team morale and continued dedication you receive in return from your team by taking the time to have an office holiday get together and financially reward your employees for their hard work will pay for itself.
With that in mind, DASHA® has been working with Coalition for the Homeless to collect new toys for children in homeless shelters in addition to our usual community outreach– recently, with organizations such as The Riley Sandler Memorial Foundation and HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation. At DASHA®, we are interested in helping people enhance their well-being, and believe that philosophy extends beyond our office doors. It takes far less than you think to contribute and give back, and there are many ways to do so beyond financially. What does your company stand for? How can you execute that mission not only behind your desk and in a meeting, but also in your lifestyle? Click HERE for some ideas.
We will have our holiday work party later this week at Lavo, an Italian restaurant, nightclub and bar all in one. The meatballs are to die for! We will give out holiday bonuses and a DASHA® branded gift (last year, it was cozy black hoodies) for all of the talented men and women on our team.
Here are some tips on how best to reward your team this holiday season:
When choosing to give a monetary holiday bonus in a non-financial services field, it is best to choose an amount that is appropriate and generous, but also that you can sustain year to year. Sometimes this is one extra week of pay; or a flat rate of several hundred dollars, or more, depending on the role. Cash off the books is always appreciated, though it’s not usually an option for larger businesses.
If cash bonuses are tough to swing or not your thing, considering giving an extra vacation day or two to your team and structure it in a way they will appreciate it, but you can still run your business. An example includes a day or two off that they must take in the first quarter, and perhaps not consecutively—set up the parameters of the reward so they are clear.
When doling out universal gifts with the company insignia, do your best to select something people will actually wear, which usually means paying extra attention to the details of how well something is made, for example, if it is a clothing item. Clothing that is soft, stylish and well-made will get worn.
When in doubt, American Express gift cards work well and are always appreciated! And of course, this year, there’s always the gift of DASHA®! Encourage your team to come to DASHA® to take care of their bodies with chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, personal training or physical therapy services. When you team feels good inside and out, they are happier and healthier. We offer all gift cards in $50 increments and you get a $5 Starbucks card for yourself just for purchasing a DASHA® gift card! Win-win! Click HERE for details.
May you have a safe, wonderful and joyous holiday season, and may your 2015 bring you everything you desire!
