Labor Day weekend has officially started, and that means you have one more time to wear your favorite white jeans, flowery sundresses and crisp linen shirts. Let’s face it: the “last” barbecue of the summer is about to happen and theirs’s a slight possibility that you are wondering “Where was I this whole time?”
Well, cheer up, because you still have a few more days to get in some summertime fun! Plus, there’s no need to mourn over summertime lost. Instead take a moment to praise yourself about all the amazing accomplishments you achieved this summer. Keeping that in mind, now is certainly not the time to lose track of your health and overindulge too much.
So how do we enjoy ourselves and stay healthy this Labor Day Weekend? It’s important to keep in mind that you have 3 full days of brunching and cocktails, hanging out with friends, most likely you are going to be running around all over the place. And if you aren’t looking to sabotage your healthy mindset and summer body which you’ve worked so hard for, then follow some of these health tips.
- Ixnay the guilt, and by that we mean don’t drink too much because everyone else is doing it. Go easy on alcohol. While it’s always fun to sip on cocktails during a holiday weekend, mixed drinks often have an extreme amount of sugar and calories. Did you know that an avg. alcoholic drink contains about 150 calories or so, and it’s a daiquiri you will most likely consume 4x the amt in calories? Instead of grasping for those sugary options, try drinking a wine spritzer or a refreshing mint infused lemonade. You will cut calories and stay hydrated. Plus, you won’t have the hangover the next day!
- Savor the flavor, and by grilling up some fresh peppers, onions, mushrooms and fill them inside a zucchini boat! This is a tasty appetizer and if you are looking to make it a meal instead, add in some protein like (chicken, steak or shrimp.)
- Salads are for everyone and these days are more appealing than ever! There’s no better time to load up on fresh produce like, avocados, sprouts, kale, tomatoes and more. Why not make a mouth-watering and deliciously healthy Labor Day dish? Throw a smoky kebab right on top four some Labor Day yumminess!
- Sugar Cravings can be avoided, but if you must get the fix then take a handful of assorted berries (blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries) and a scoop of cool whip on top!
Choose wisely when it comes to Labor Day parties! Start your holiday weekend off right by staying active and moving your body. You have three days to get in some final outdoor activities. Whether it’s going on a leisurely walk, going for a sunset bike-ride, trying an outdoor Yoga class, or swimming with friends, engage in activities that will help keep your mind and body healthy.
