Home with the kids during the day? How NOT to lose your marbles!

Working both in and outside of the home can be a double-edged sword. Some people are the CEO of the house, and some are CEO of a corporation. Some people are both. CEO is heavy title no matter which one you choose.

A 37 year-old mom of two, Co-Founder of DASHA® wellness & spa, and President of Dasha Wellness Corp, I have a lot on my plate! My responsibility to my family, employees, and clients is tremendous, yet for me, it’s also awe-inspiring. I am so passionate about meeting similar health-minded individuals and building partnerships that make a difference in our city.

Of course I sometimes yearn to stay home with my children, especially while they are still young. I see them growing and becoming more independent each day. Life goes by so quickly. The thought of them not being babies anymore makes me sad sometimes. Should I try for another? Let’s stop there…!

My days home with the kids are also my days away from the office, which means I need to find a way to catch up on personal things and to relax! To do so, I must plan my days at home strategically. I am definitely goal-oriented and try to impress on my kids the value of making and achieving daily goals. But it’s not so much about the perfection of the project- it’s the process you take to complete it!

I introduced my kids to art a long time ago. They both love the idea of being creative with mom. The key is to find something that you are passionate about and that is extremely flexible too (i.e., it isn’t something that is so unique that it can’t be done in the home or on a whim!).

Next, why not motivate your children with fitness? Take them down to the playroom to set up an obstacle course. They love beating mom, and to be honest, I love watching them think through their plan of attack. Family fitness is not only an opportunity to inspire your kids and laugh together; it can also be a great workout!

Cooking dinner together is my favorite! We whip out one of our kids cookbooks and one of my cookbooks and start combining. My older one, Cooper, is into cracking the eggs (he’s all boy!) and Summer, my little one, is all about pouring and mixing. And the real fun part is of course the tasting!

In short, you can have fun when you’re home with your kids while getting things done (and have some “me” time leftover to relax!). Be creative! Figure out ways to incorporate them into the things you need to do. Who knows, they may just teach you something as well!
