It’s the weekend! And if you’re heading to out of the city to for some weekend fun you’re most likely going to need some personal wellness too. DASHA® understands, that there’s something special about vacationing outside your environment that makes life more enjoyable, relaxing, and might even taste better.
But… we want you to use your time safely and wisely. This week we noticed a trend amongst our patients with neck and back issues, mostly related to overuse of exercise. This is why DASHA® recommends mixing up your physical activity along with some down-time, and don’t forget the stretching.
Here are a few ways that you can unwind safely and prevent injury. First resign yourself to the fact that you might just have to invest in a great pair of sneakers because if they are good well, that makes all the difference, plus less pressure on your joints. And ladies invest in some sports bras that give you the protection you need, especially if you are busty up top.
At DASHA® we can’t stress enough to our patients the importance of staying hydrated! It’s true electrolytes matter. They help regulate your muscles, hydration, and body’s pH levels. With such high heat during the summer months we look to offer prevention tips that are easily maintained. Deficiencies or imbalances in electrolytes can cause everything from muscle cramping to an irregular heartbeat. Remember when we sweat, we lose electrolytes; so it’s really important to replace them immediately. While it’s true that popular sports drinks like Gatorade and Powerade have electrolytes but at DASHA® we are pushing for a healthier solution with less refined sugar and artificial ingredients.
There are better ways to get the electrolytes you need without resorting to these processed products such as Sea Salt. Ingesting salt is a quick and easy way to replace what we lose when we are sweating, especially for runners. Salt also contains electrolytes magnesium, calcium and potassium; so it’s a great solution. Himalayan sea salts (the pink one) are available in most grocery stores. All you need is a perfect pinch in your water bottle and you are ready to go! Another great trick to try before a heat storm moves in is the power of lemons. Lemons are on top when it comes to citrus, a great source of potassium, and magnesium. Of course we all know that lemons help to detoxify but they also boost the immune system with vitamin C. So before you go to sleep at night, slide that tea bag over and squeeze a whole lemon into some room temperature water for a boost of electrolytes.
Enjoy the weekend and be mindful of what your body needs!
