Hundreds of thousands of people have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the United States and 2.5 million people worldwide.   MS is a disease of the central nervous system and is the most common neurological disorder diagnosed in young adults. This disorder damages or destroys the protective covering (known as myelin) surrounding the nerves, causing reduced communication between the brain and nerve pathways. Common symptoms include visual problems, overwhelming fatigue, difficulty with balance and coordination, and various levels of impaired mobility. MS is not contagious or fatal.

There is no cure for MS.  To stay up to date on the latest advances in MS research, visit the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America’s library of on-demand videos and webcasts by clicking HERE.  There is also a toll-free hotline for individuals with MS, family members, care partners and friends seeking medication assistance programs, mental health counselors, physical therapy and more, that can be reached by calling 1-800-532-7667 ext. 154 Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm.

On Sunday, May 4th, 2014, there will be a Walk MS 2014 – New York City event held at Pier 26 off West Street between N. Moore and Hubert Street in Tribeca from 10:00am to 1:30pm.  Click HERE to learn more about the event.
