My son Cooper is almost eight years-old and is at that age of being a sponge of all things electronic. Moms and dads of little ones beware! In today’s world of technology, kids have constant access to laptops, Wi-Fi, cable television, i-Pads, i-Pods, and i-Phones, so be ready for what’s in the near future.
This past weekend I was preparing for the upcoming week when I suddenly heard my little girl, Summer, scream loudly. Of course, by now I should know the difference between reaction screams and reactor screams, but I still ran into the living room to make sure that everything was okay.
Summer (age 4 ½) had decided to take the remote control away from Cooper because she didn’t like what he was watching. I was appalled when he reacted with a creative sentence using a word that begins with “F” (which I will not repeat in case he’s reading this post).
I immediately replied, “You are in major trouble! Where did you learn to say such a thing!?”
His response, which broke my heart a little, was a short one:
You.
He had heard Mommy and Daddy arguing one day, when we thought we were in private, and we were to blame.
Moms and Dads, before you voice your opinions to one other, please understand that your conversations should be rated G. PG stands for “Parental Guidance suggested.” This means that a film is suitable for general viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for younger children. It is a parent’s job to decide whether or not to let their little ones watch certain films, and this role certainly carries over into our interactions in front of our kids! When in doubt, keep it G. I know I certainly will from now on!
