Did you know that your skin is more dehydrated in the winter? Most people would say that skin is more dehydrated in the summer due to days spent in the sun, hours playing in the pool and various other outdoor activities. However, dry and cold air has an effect on the skin and can deprive us of the water in our skin, causing the tightening and stiffness feeling.
There are a few ways to help rehydrate skin throughout not only winter, but the whole year:
Wear protective clothing when going outside: if you’re planning on spending time in the cold, dress properly with a hat, scarf and glove to protect skin from cold air.
Invest in a rich moisturizer: do your research and find out the best moisturizer for your skin. Whether you have naturally dry or oily skin, there’s a formula out there for you that can help keep skin smooth and radiant.
Incorporate water into your diet: not only is drinking water important, but there are other ways that you can incorporate hydration into your diet. One way is by eating more foods like cucumbers, avocados and sweet potatoes, all that have various vitamins and minerals that help nurture skin and keep skin hydrated.
Stay away from long hot showers: a hot shower might sound great after coming in from the cold, but hot water can take away the protective oils that help moisturize the skin, especially in the winter. Try to limit showers to 5 minutes in warm water to keep skin from drying out.
Focus on your skin this winter, and don’t let it go unnoticed. By treating it now, it will stay healthy and fresh for many years to come!
