On Saturday, August 25, 2012, United Way of New York City held a very special benefit event to raise money for the over 500 food pantries and soup kitchens across the five buroughs of New York. Staggeringly, even in one of the world’s most upscale cities, 1 in every 5 children grow up in a home without enough food, and approximately 33% of senior citizens have a difficult time buying groceries. Research from United Way of NYC’s website indicates that 1.4 New Yorkers will visit a food bank or soup kitchen for their next meal. These numbers clearly indicate why United Way’s mission is so important, and DASHA’s Dr. Darren and Shannon Pollack were more than pleaed to show their support for the organization’s benefit event on August 25 in the Hamptons.

The “What’s On the Table?” benefit, featuring a delectable meal prepared by celebrity chef Tom Collichio at the Southampton home of of Avis and Bruce Richards and an afterparty at the popular East Hampton landmark, Georgica, was truly an incredible event. Packed with celebrities, foodies, and entertainers alike, one thing that all guests had in common was a desire to end hunger in our city.
