Patients come to the DASHA® wellness centers seeking treatment for an old injury they’ve been dealing with the consequences on for months and even years. Usually it’s an old sprain or strain, whether it’s torn or overstretched muscles, tendons or ligaments. The bottom line is, old injuries interfere with your ability to enjoy a workout routine and sometimes even conduct basic daily tasks. Constraining your movement to deal with the pain is not an effective solution and can restrict your range of motion and lead to greater problems.
When you’re first injured, rest, ice, compression and elevation helps to manager your pain, but it doesn’t heal your injury. Anti-inflammatory drugs or muscle relaxers are also not a long-term solution. And I’m always an advocate of avoiding surgery at all costs, when possible.
When muscle tissue heals, it actually heals with collagen, which results in a build-up of scar tissue. Scar tissue is weaker, less elastic, as well as prone to re-injury and, of course, pain. It also hardens and is thicker than your regular tissue. At DASHA®, our team of “independent client providers” will help you get to the source of your problem, that soft connective tissue that holds everything together. We can help you to break down the scar tissue using ART (Active Release Technique) and Graston Technique coupled with massage and physical therapy. Your muscles should be loose and fluid, not hard. Chances are you’ve developed other complications as a result of your original injury, when you were recuperating and your body was compensating, which we can also treat, eliminating pain, stress, tension, and bad behaviors, helping you to realign your body and (literally) stand taller.
